Cumberland Cafe opened its doors in the fall of 1987, and through the years has faced many challenges. My wife and I have gone through a partnership, a recession and were victims of a fire that started in another business in our mall. We've seen the Northside area expand and grow, with other restaurants and cafes coming and going frequently. After much consideration, when it came time to reopen after the fire, we decided to remain in the Northside area. We saw a great need for a nice relaxing place where people could get great food, all homemade, and drink in a relaxing atmosphere on this side of town. We have taken great care in hiring a wait staff that is both professional and skilled in making each person feel welcome, comfortable and satisfied in every aspect of their dining experience. Good service is just as important to us as quality food. Lisa, who runs the front of the house, also makes all of the desserts and the thin, hand-rolled crackers. I run the kitchen with my Sous Chef, Ben. We work hard to find the freshest ingredients and to constantly find creative new ways of putting it all together. We all have a great passion and respect for fine food and love sharing this with our customers. We want all of our regular local customers to be excited about returning to Cumberland Cafe, and our out-of-town guests to have a memorable dining experience they can take home with them. We look forward to serving you very soon. Charles C. Smithdeal, III |
